Retro Crochet Ornaments



WRITTEN PATTERN
Materials:
  • 4.25 mm crochet hook
  • Medium worsted weight yarn
  • Glass ornaments
Abbreviations:
Ch = chain
Sc = single crochet
Hdc = half double crochet
Dc= double crochet
Sl st = Slip Stitch
Instructions:
Make  2
Round 1 – I started with a magic ring and chain 3 inside ring, 11 dc, slip stitch in top of beginning chain 3. Fasten off.  (12dc)
Round 2 – With a new color slip stitch in space between stitches, ch 3, 1 dc. 2 dc in each remaining space around. Slip stitch in top of beginning chain 3. Fasten off. (24 dc)
Round 3 – With a new color slip stitch in space between stitches, ch 3, 1 dc. 2 dc in each remaining space around. Slip stitch in top of beginning chain 3. Fasten off. (24 dc)
Round 4 – With new color slip stitch in space between stitches, ch 3, 2 dc. 3 dc in each remaining space around. Slip stitch in top of beginning chain 3. Fasten off. (36 dc)
Round 5 – With new color slip stitch in space between stitches, ch 3, 2 dc. 3 dc in each remaining space around. Slip stitch in top of beginning chain 3. Fasten off. (36 dc)
Continue on with as many rounds as you need to cover your ornament. If you need a little more width add a single crochet in between dc groups.
Sew together each half together, insert bauble ornament and continue around. Weave in ends and enjoy!

Abbreviations:
Ch = chain
Sc = single Crochet
Hdc – half double crochet
Dc2tog = Double Crochet 2 Together – (YO insert hook into stitch, YO pull through 2 loops on hook, repeat 1 more time, chain 1.)
Dc3tog = Double Crochet 3 together – (YO insert hook into stitch, YO pull through 2 loops on hook, repeat 2 more time, chain 1.)
Tr3tog =  *yo twice, insert hook into next st, yo, pull up a loop, (yo, draw through 2 loops) twice, repeat from * two more times, yo, draw through all loops on hook.
Pct  = Picot (Chain 3 and insert hook back through the center of the first chain made, yo and sl st)
Sl st = Slip Stitch

Original pattern crocheted in Phydeaux designs Caresse Blackberry Bramble Merino Wool (sportweight) using 5mm hook.
Can be made with preferred yarn and recommended hook.
Instructions:
Start in magic ring or ch 5 and slip stitch in first chain to form a ring.
Row 1- Ch 3 (counts as 1 dc here and throughout), dc 4, chain 3, 5 dc, turn. (10 dc)
Row 2- Ch 3 dc in same stitch, dc in each stitch until 3 chain space (2dc, chain 3, 2dc) in same 3 chain space, dc in each dc until the last, 2 dc in last stitch, turn. (18dc, 3ch)
Row 3- Ch 3 dc in same stitch, dc in each stitch until 3 chain space (2dc, chain 3, 2dc) in same 3 chain space, dc in each dc until the last, 2 dc in last stitch, turn. (22dc, 3ch)
Row 4- Ch 3 dc in same stitch, dc in each stitch until 3 chain space (2dc, chain 3, 2dc) in same 3 chain space, dc in each dc until the last, 2 dc in last stitch, turn. (28dc, 3ch)
Row 5- Ch 3 dc in same stitch, dc in each stitch until 3 chain space (2dc, chain 3, 2dc) in same 3 chain space, dc in each dc until the last, 2 dc in last stitch, turn. (34dc, 3ch)
Row 6- Ch 3 dc in same stitch, dc in each stitch until 3 chain space (2dc, chain 3, 2dc) in same 3 chain space, dc in each dc until the last, 2 dc in last stitch, turn.
Row 7- Ch 3, dc in same stitch, dc in next stitch, ch 1, skip one dc and dc in next stitch repeat until next 3 ch space is reached, (2dc chain 3 2dc) in center 3 chain space, dc in next dc, ch 1 skip 1 dc and dc in next dc, 1 dc in next to last dc, 2dc in last stitch.
Row 8- Chain 3, dc in same stitch, 1 dc in 2 next stitches, 2 dc in each chain space, dc in last 3 stitches before center 3 chain space, (2dc, chain 3, 2dc) in 3 chain space, dc in next 3 stitches, 2dc in each chain space , dc in next to last 2 stitches, 2dc in last stitch.
Row 9 – chain 3, dc in same stitch, dc in each stitch until center 3 ch space, (2dc, chain 3 2dc) in center space, dc in each stitch until last stitch, 2dc in last stitch.
Row 10 through 12– Repeat row 7 through 9
Row 13 through 15– Repeat row 7 through 9
Row 16 through 19– Repeat row 9.
Repeat pattern as many times as necessary to achieve desired size

Materials:
Yarn: Sugar’n Cream Cotton
Hook: 5 mm
Size 11 inches wide, 14 inches tall and 12 inch strap
Pattern:
Chain (ch)
Single Crochet (sc)
Half Double Crochet (hdc)
Large Shell (lg sh) 7 dc in same st
Small Shell (sm sh) 5 dc in same st
With first color, ch 3 (counts as ch 1 + 1st hdc).
Round 1: Work 7 hdc in 3rd ch from hook, join — 8 hdc.
Round 2: Ch 2 (counts as hdc here and throughout), work 1 hdc in same st as join, work 2 hdc in remaining sts around, join — 16 hdc.
Round 3:  Ch 2, work 1 hdc in same st as join, 1 hdc in next, *2 hdc in next, 1 hdc in next, rep from * around, join — 24 hdc.
Round 4:  Ch 2, work 1 hdc in same st as join, 1 hdc in each of the next 2 sts, *2 hdc in next, 1 hdc in each of the next 2 sts, rep from * around, join — 32 hdc.

Round 29: Ch 1 in third sm sh, sc in same st, sc in next, hdc in next st, dc in next st, hdc in next st, sc in next st. Continue on (sc, sc, sc, hdc, dc, hdc), rep around, slip st into beginning st, join.
Round 30: Ch 3, dc in each st around, slip st into beginning st, join.
Strap
Row 1: Ch 2, work 1 hdc in next 7 sts, turn — 8 sts.
Row 2: Ch 2, hdc2tog, work 1 hdc in next 3 sts, hdc2tog, turn — 6 sts.
Row 3: Ch 2, work 1 hdc in next 5 sts, turn — 6 sts.
Rows 4 through 55: Repeat Row 3; add additional rows if longer strap is desired.
Row 56: Ch 2, 2 hdc  in next, work 1 hdc in next 3 sts, 2 hdc in last — 8 sts.
Fasten off, leaving a tail to sew strap to other side of bag.
